The Conversation U.S.Avocados could have easily gone extinct, but thankfully, didn’t! It’s thanks to megaherbivores like giant ground sloths who ate avocados whole, traveled and then pooped out the seeds.
Most mammals couldn’t handle the large seeds, so it was up to the toxodon to disperse and fertilize avocados.
