It's so dry in the #highveld now, and there are #fires breaking out all over the countryside near #Pretoria. Three in my neighbourhood this week, including one big one near #RietvleiDam this morning. I don't know what human, animal and property damage they have caused.

In a few ways fire is good, so long as nobody and nothing gets hurt. Fire's good for a lot of plants and ecologies. And once a fire burns out, the burnt land becomes a firebreak.

But it's a nervous season all the same.
