Sometimes I question whether I’m actually autistic because I don’t hyper-fixate on specific topics, but then @RickiTarr starts talking about potatoes and I realize I have SO many thoughts and opinions and I’m like "Oh, there you go, Alice. You're definitely autistic. You just don't have the stereotypical type like train autism—you have potato autism."
@Alice @RickiTarr you can be neurodivergent without autism.
@Thebratdragon @RickiTarr I have been formally diagnosed with autism. This is just a joke, but I really do love potatoes.
@Alice @RickiTarr ahhhh sorry, just some NDs and most NT's automatically associate it with autism (which can be true, but not always).
@Alice @RickiTarr Special interests can be tasty!
@catsalad @Alice @RickiTarr When the potaato sends you an email you will know it has achieved sentience... https://sauropods.win/@futurebird/112781268402520587

Attached: 2 images Oh wow someone is selling this clearly excellent guide to growing potatoes. POTAATO (wave it over the soil and coax the roots into existence. Then you have a plant. This plant will grow illogically. At some point it will send you an email. )

@Alice @RickiTarr The French call it “pomme de auterreism”

@Alice @RickiTarr I'm becoming convinced that @rickitarr is a content-creation bot. One post each day from them, and suddenly the entire fediverse is piling in with opinions, whether it's about relationships, shoes, nookie, potatoes, etm.

(Bloody good work being the catalyst, though 😂 )

@bytebro @RickiTarr I know! I mean, I don’t think Ricki is a bot, but I absolutely believe she is the heart of mastodon and the world desperately needs her to host her own talk show.
@bytebro @Alice If I were more organized and disciplined, I might actually do something with this data, but you are all saved by my Laziness lol

@bytebro @Alice @RickiTarr

don't worry, we are onto them....

they have had their chips....

@Alice @RickiTarr I mean you can also like trains but in a potato-autism like way. For a long time I didn’t feel worthy due to this.

I skate across topics - infrastructure, politics, organisational structures and modelling, business and management styles, history, systems thinking, ux and interaction design, town planning, and more, connecting them all together. It’s not typical autistic deep special interest. But there is a thread or theme.

@Alice Potato Autism should be an official diagnosis
@Alice @RickiTarr I never heard of Fondant Potatoes. I looked it up and they look awesome.
@Alice @RickiTarr Get a Sharpie pen and a bunch of potatoes. Draw windows, etc on the sides of the potatoes, and then line them up. Potato train!
TAJFUN | PotatoPro

Tajfun is a medium-early variety that enjoys good reputation. Its large, almost perfectly oval tubers with a yellow, slightly rough skin and shallow eyes hide a tasty, light yellow flesh that does not darken after cooking. In addition, the variety is resistant to viruses, potato eelworm, and black scab.

@Alice @RickiTarr tater'tism? Autatoism? Potautism? Hmmm... 🤔 I'm thinking about this way too hard.
@Alice @RickiTarr how da ya like them sky potatoes? Richard Herring again - http://richardherring.com/warmingup/17/4/2006/index.html Pommes de terres :)

I was doing new material night at the Fortnight Club in Angel tonight (will be back there for the next two or three gigs, come along if can Ââ€\itÂ’

@Alice @RickiTarr

Tuber, or, not tuber, THAT is the question.

@Alice @RickiTarr The way i over came my hyperfixation that drove everyone nuts was to be hyperfixated on a many things possible at once. Then i went from annoying to interesting
@Alice @RickiTarr wonder if it is like when i think i may want to buy me a nice watch and end up 15 days later with a lengthy list of top-notch watch repairing tools in my amazon cart and wanting to move to la-chaux-de-fonds, switzerland become a watchmaker…
@argonaut @alice @RickiTarr
Been there, done that, have the toolbench.
@Alice This is the single most concise breakdown of being autistic that I’ve seen yet. And FWIW, doubt about being autistic is a very common autistic experience. #Undiagnosed #LateRecognized #HighMasking
@Alice Also, autistic people are stereotypically able to see patterns that neurotypicals can’t. I am the exact opposite. I can’t see patterns for shit. At the same time I have a bunch of very specific sensory issues, so I guess it evens out.
@CaptainFlab @Alice Yeah being on the specrum would be a lot easier without the GI issues that come with it
@anubis2814 @Alice Somehow I dodged that bullet, but my oldest kid appears to have made up for that. Interestingly, they suffer the most when they come back to visit the US. In Germany they’re usually fine. Weird.
@CaptainFlab @Alice Lol, jinkies, what a mystery. Almost like they actually regulate their food in europe. Crazy concept

@Alice

You should construct a potato launcher. I bet it would be excellent piece of equipment

@RickiTarr

@Bobblegagger @Alice @RickiTarr

Potato launchers don't work well with mashed potatoes.

Trust me on this one.

@Alice @RickiTarr
Odd that these potato remarks appear in what’s called ‘a feed’
@Alice @RickiTarr Specifically, clock battery potato autism. #callback
@wleisner @Alice Get in the trains and like The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and You're hitting a lot

@Alice @RickiTarr trains are cool potatoes taste better.

Have you ever tried to curry a train?

@Alice @RickiTarr
I think potato autism is common amongst late diagnosed & self realised autistic people. Important discovery. 😁
@Susan60 @Alice @RickiTarr I think there are a lot of guys (and maybe some women) with Spreadsheet Autism, but that is a marketable trait, so nobody thinks of it as autism.

@dan613 @Alice @RickiTarr

This is a whole other conversation! Skills that are valued by capitalist society make a person’s “eccentricities” a lot more acceptable. And given that those skills are more encouraged & supported in men… don’t get me started!

I like the idea. I think I too have a touch of the potato 'tism.
