Judge Cannon's brilliant move to dismiss the classified documents case will delay the trial until well into next year. I'm sure Jack Smith will appeal and will win on appeal. The Appeals court may then reassign the case to a more appropriate judge, who will have to start the process over again (or at least start a new process).
I'm sure if the Trump team can push the appeals process to the Supreme Court they'll be counting on the conservative justices ruling to uphold Cannon's decision - which they might do. They've already shown they're willing to undo decades of court-determined precedent.
This is the consequence of Congress doing nothing for 200 years about Marbury vs Madison, in which the Supreme Court gave itself the power of review.
It would be fair to argue that generations of Americans were comfortable with that decision, as they never amended the Constitution to take the power away from the courts.
That said, we've now seen what extensive corruption in the U.S. court system (including many cases coming out of the 5th district) looks like.
The Democrats will have to find a solution to this problem that doesn't trigger a partisan war over the courts (I don't think we're in one, yet).
