The beautifully tapering Carfury menhir in West Penwith for today's #StandingStoneSunday offering.

It stands in an area of small fields, just off an overgrown ancient lane below Ding Dong mine and Nine Maidens of Boskednan stone circle.

Visited June 2011 on a day of sunshine and showers. Portrait, may need a click.

@thesweetcheat One of the best to visit and a beautiful stone. Great views over Mount's Bay from there too.
@Vibracobra23 yeah, it's terrific. I've only been once, keep meaning to revisit. On this walk I went on to Mulfea Quoit and the Treen entrance graves.
@thesweetcheat Aye, there are several worth seeing around there, which makes it an extra worthwhile visit. Not too difficult to get to either.
@thesweetcheat For all our many, many visits to Cornwall, and West Penwith in particular, and for all our adventures and our searches for increasingly hard to find ancient sites - we've never visited this one. 😂
@grahamorriss I've only been once! It's a bit difficult to get to in summer. I keep meaning to go back though, it's a lovely stone.
@thesweetcheat I need to explore around there more. I still need to find Fenton Bebibell!
@grahamorriss that's good too, we went to it the long way (from downstream) but it's easier from upstream; there's a little gate off the main path near Four Parish Stone.
@thesweetcheat I do love it around there. Definitely worth a wander. Thank you. 😁👍
@thesweetcheat It's on me list now. 😁👍 Are you going to the Megameet?
@grahamorriss when and where is it? I missed seeing anything about it, as usual.
@thesweetcheat Aw, maaan... I suspect I'll have to tell @willowhouseprints as well. It's at Avebury, on Saturday 17th August. Early till whenevs. It's normally "officially" 12pm onwards but people will be there all day. It's a special one this year to commemorate the passing of Nigel, who was a massive presence at these get togethers.
