Happy Birthday to Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner who survived a Taliban attack and became a global symbol of hope, born on this day in 1997.

The United Nations also named July 12 Malala Day in honor of Malala's address at the UN Headquarters on this day in 2013, where she called on politicians to take urgent action to ensure every child has the right to go to school.
