Cyprus is unique in being subject to military occupation by two different and unrelated armed forces, each posing unique threats. The Turks pose a more traditional threat (e.g. further invasion, ongoing war crimes). The threat from the British is that they'll piss off some neighboring country with their incessant meddling and get the island bombed. The US manages to be, at some level, involved in both occupations
