#BikeTooter cc @bikenite

@ascentale @bikenite While walking along a multi-use path that I usually cycle on, I found myself checking the mirror on my handlebars, which clearly wasn’t there as as I was walking. What other weird cycling muscle memory examples do folks have?

Got a #SmartHelmet with turn signals but it doesn’t quite fit 🤨

After I got a different helmet, I still keep trying to reach for the turn signals controller

Safety aside:
Thinking about how distracting vs helpful these lights 🚨 might be

Not convinced drivers will see them in daylight. Or I’d be overconfident thinking they understand the signals

Not sure the lights are more good vs the distraction of thumbing the controller

@AccordionBruce @uxmark @ascentale @bikenite drivers expect hand signals.

@szakib @uxmark @ascentale @bikenite
I seem to recall (citation needed) a study saying drivers respond most safely when they can’t predict what a cyclist is going to do

So sometimes I weave around like I’m drunk if I’m in a really dangerous situation

But yes to hand signals🚲

The abstract upraised left-hand signal invented by truckers has always made me wonder if drivers really understand what that means

I signal with my right (when not weaving around 🥴)

@AccordionBruce @uxmark @ascentale @bikenite my point is that people react faster to things they do expect to see. If there are blinkers instead of a hand signal, they slow / brake later.
