A plan for the family #staycation is to sample food from every country in Europe from our own home

One a day.

Some of them are dead easy (pizza/pasta anyone?), some of the countries are much harder.

Would love to know your favourite dish from your home country in Europe (or anywhere else, why not?)
What would you serve to someone who has never been to your country before? Bonus points if it's #vegetarianCooking and/or has a good story attached!

@Ruth_Mottram Have you seen the #CookTheCup posts by @RuthSalter - might give you some inspiration!
@simplicitarian hah thank you! That's indeed great inspiration! @RuthSalter

Thanks for the shout-out Ali 😊

Enjoy your cooking, Ruth. I also made a very Scottish haggis and macaroni pie earlier this year. It would work with vegetarian haggis and ticks two quintessential Scottish boxes - haggis, and macaroni pies (contains alcohol): https://cellarcrumbs.wordpress.com/2024-pies/rob-roy-macaroni-o-pie/

Rob Roy Macaroni O Pie

Rob Roy Macaroni O Pie With Burns Night just around the corner, I wanted to try another whisky cocktail for January this year. The Rob Roy originates in New York, but given its name and ingredients…

@RuthSalter gosh that sounds good! I lived in Scotland form14 years and I'm quite partial to a macaroni pie (and a veggie haggis), so may add this to the list, adding vermouth would never have occurred to me! Is the cocktail in the phot the actual Rob Roy? I'm now wondering if I should add drinks too.. @simplicitarian

@Ruth_Mottram
Aw thanks 😊 Oh definitely one to re-live some time then - although if you just went plain macaroni pie I wouldn't hold it against you 😂

That is a Rob Roy, although the cocktail is from New York. I can't think of any Scottish cocktails - whisky, neat?

@simplicitarian

@RuthSalter it's a fair point, I can't think of any Scottish cocktails either, though there must be some. Perhaps time to invent your own? I'm thinking something raspberry flavoured and crisp, or else creamy like cranachan. Plenty great Scottish gins now to choose from too!. @simplicitarian

@Ruth_Mottram
Let me know if you come across any good ones 😊
