I see the "America = Rome" returning in #history and #politics discourse and think it important to add some nuance. The biggest danger in making this comparison is engaging in eschatology and getting trapped in a *this must happen* mindset. I'll be making some posts cataloguing various problems and compiling them on my Substack. Historical comparison is super useful, however, these comparisons should be done in #solidarity not to frighten, but to enlighten and encourage.
