#Celtic #FolkyFriday: The River Barrow's name is associated to the legendary deeds of Dian Cecht, who found three serpents in the heart of The Morrรญgan's infant son Meiche. Dian Cรฉcht took him to the place called Moy Fertaigi, called Moy Mechi afterwards, and slew the child, cutting out his hearts and burning each one to ash for fear of the evil even the dead bodies of the serpents might cause. He cast the ashes into the river nearby, where they stilled the river and killed every living thing in it.`

#Celtic #FolkyFriday: The River Boyne was formed and named after #Boann: The goddess circled the `Well of Wisdom, chanting as she went, but her perambulations took her widdershins rather than deasal-wise. Perhaps this was her undoing, or perhaps her uninvited presence violated this holy place. The waters began to rise and stir. Wavelets grew into watery mountains that slapped at the banks that contained them. Boann faltered in her enchantment, gripped with sudden fear. She risked the wrath of the Gods, now she had to pay. Boann lost an eye, an arm and a leg, her faithful pet, some even say her life in the lakeburst which carried her out to sea.`
