In the wake of President Joe #Biden’s poor #debate performance, his opponents & most major #media orgs have pointed out that he has done few interviews that give the public an opportunity to hear him speak w/o a script or teleprompters.

So much has been made of this limited access that the impressions from Special Counsel #RobertHur about his 5 hrs of interviews w/the president on Oct 8 & 9 drove months of coverage.

The prosecutor [Hur] said #Biden had “diminished faculties in advancing age” & called him a “well-meaning, elderly man w/a poor memory.” #POTUS angrily dismissed these assertions, which VP #KamalaHarris called “politically motivated.”
@ProPublica obtained a rare interview w/Biden on Sept 29, nine days before the Hur interviews began.…the video,…was assembled from footage shot by 5 cameras, on Oct 1. We edited out >1min of crosstalk & exchanges w/the camera people, as is customary….

Conducting the interview was veteran journalist & fmr CNN WH correspondent #JohnHarwood, who requested it & then worked w/ @ProPublica to film & produce it.

He did not send questions to the White House ahead of time, nor did he get approval for the topics to be discussed during the interview.

Recording began as soon as #Biden was miked & sitting in the chair that Friday at 2:50 PM. Earlier that day, Biden’s press had said #POTUS would have only 10 mins for the interview, instead of the previously agreed upon 20 mins. We requested that the interview go the full 20 mins. You can hear during the unedited interview a couple of moments when White House staff interrupted to signal that the interview should come to a close. Biden seemed eager to continue talking.

@helderweb @Nonilex @ProPublica really ironic that it would be Howard Stern, of all people, trying to save Biden’s image. Stern gave DJT an awful lot of airtime in the past; DJT fit right in with Stern’s cast of ne’re-do-wells, and Stern’s audience ate it up.

Still, any port in a storm, I always say.

@Nonilex I thought Hur's report said that a jury in a few years time might accept tgat he was a " well-meaning, elderly man w/a poor memory" & acquit. Ie Hur didn't make the argument Buden was currently like that.
