Seeing a lot of "bad politics are due to covid brain damage" discourse today, including from those would want to believe ought know better.

Please stop.

The seeds for the orchard that is our current moment were planted well before even the SARS outbreak of 2002. Like decades, if not centuries, before.

When our politics is fascists saying we have to support fascism to defeat the other fascists, please don't try to make sense of health supremacism by resorting to ableism.

It's not a good look.

@beadsland i feel like there's a bit of a tendency among covid aware people (and i am saying this as someone who is very much a 'covid aware person') to act like covid is the only problem. it's absolutely one of the problems, and it exacerbates a lot of other problems, and addressing it well improves the state of a not insignificant number of other problems, but it is not the only problem

@chrisisgr8 @beadsland

It's just one symptom of the same problems causing basically ALL the other nasty shit we're dealing with.

@violetmadder @chrisisgr8 @beadsland I wonder if part of it isn't that pretty much everyone who's an activist for *other* issues is covid-denying. If you have to make compromises and practice harm reduction to even be able to interact with advocates for racial justice, economic justice, and so on, it excludes the *truly* COVID-cautious.

To continue my own activism, I have to resort to one-way masking, attending events without eating or drinking, grabbing fast food at 11 pm on the way home.

@callisto @violetmadder @chrisisgr8

This is #tensegrity. That is, what intersectionality is meant to mitigate against; what solidarity is meant as an answer to.

Don't deal with the underlying problems of #RentierSociety, the radical coloniality, that is the root, of the tree.

Just camp out on this branch, build one's tree-house, and declare everything else someone else's issue.

The thing is, one will never uproot a tree from the comfort of one's treehouse.

@callisto @violetmadder @chrisisgr8

Many new to public health advocacy have found themselves flung out of their respective tree-house, only to then cling to an adjoining branch, feeling betrayed by the ideological models—unfulfilled retrofuture promises all—wherein they have vested #EgoValue before now, even as they're yet not ready to do the work of climbing down out of the tree.

So, what's to be done? Well, build another tree-house, obviously.

Familiar ground. Well, familiar planks, anyway.
