"Why have you shown contempt for YHWH's decrees by doing evil in my sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and you have taken his wife to be your own wife! You have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. So now the sword will never depart from your house. For you have despised me by taking the wife of Uriah the Hittite as your own!" (2 Samuel 12:9-10).

#David had done well and honored YHWH in most of his behavior, and YHWH promised him a ruling house which would never be supplanted.

But David allowed the power to go to his head and he sinned by sexually assaulting #Bathsheba wife of #Uriah the Hittite and having Uriah die in battle.

When David should have been enjoying the fruit of his victories and prosperity he suffered chaos in his own household.

Amnon raped Tamar and was killed by Absalom.

Absalom rose up in insurrection against David and was violently put down.

The loyalty of the tribes other than Judah was constantly tested.

YHWH preserved David and his reign, but at a high cost.

How did David sabotage his own house and its prosperity?
