What does Lobi mean?

@RL_Dane

Lobi πŸ’• means Love in SR Sranan Tongo

@RadioAzureus

Ahh! I knew a guy from Telegram (IIRC) on the #LinuxForEveryone channel a few years back (IIRC) from #Suriname.

I wish I could remember his name. Too many screen names. So many great people from all over the world.

@RL_Dane

Now look how computing World 🌍 is small You have Virtual contact with me
I am the first person who started to use #Linux in my country just besides my friend Andy Lo A Foe
We then only had a #waffle #BulletinBoard system at our disposal, which could Talk only #UUCP to the computer of upr2.clu.net
The machine ran on a Dialup Line which called the #University of #PuertoRico Twice week & later Everyday

@RL_Dane

My friend Andy came to my home and saw my #Amiga #computer #A500 working flawlessly multitasking beautiful things with just a tiny candle of a #Motorola 68000 CPU a very small #Denise video chip and even smaller #FatAgnus #DMA chip and the great #Paula audio chip

He also wanted a operating system that could multitask so beautifully on his #386CPU computer with his gorgeous #387FPU math co processor

Linus Torvalds was then working on the #Linux kernel

@RL_Dane

#Linus had just released the #Linux kernel on #Usenet.
So Andy requested permission to download the #massive #sources of the kernel which he wanted to compile on his 386 computer
Β‘It took a whole week before the kernel was compiled in the first run!
On dial-up it had cost a massive sum to download that #kernel because we were dialing internationally to upr2.clu.net

@RL_Dane a #hex #editor needed to be used in order for the #boot #floppy for #Linux to be created
The #shell was also cross compiled
Otherwise you would stand nowhere after the kernel has booted
The same counted for the #userland utilities #ls #mkdir etc. Those came from #RichardStallman
The initial file system was #OpenSource #minix from #GNU #Herd

Finally #GCC was compiled natively
Then a native version of the kernel could be compiled, from Linux itself
