#ARIAdiarrhea

@heydon You’re absolutely right. But isn’t there some untapped hashtag potential? #diaria
@heydon going to print out and send this as embossed card to those asking me to do this
@heydon Why would anyone do that at all? It makes no sense
@renereh1 It makes sense if you think screen readers only read ARIA and nothing else in HTML, which sadly seems to be a popular misconception.

@heydon What? I didn't know that! Wtf, then let's burn MDN Web Docs.

Quote: "Note: aria-label is intended for interactive elements or for elements made interactive via other ARIA declarations when there's no visible text in the DOM to serve as a label."

@renereh1 THat's correct. People think that screen readers don't read, like, text at all, or they think aria-label combines with (rather than overrides) the text.
@heydon as a person who has only been criticized for not knowing what *to* do, where can one learn good AX design without being scolded for at least trying?
@booc0mtaco Most online resources don't scold you. Try Deque, MDN, Inclusive Components.
