Yesterday was a great hiking and insect collecting day. I was greeted with the knocking of a woodpecker somewhere in the forest. The wind sounded like the ocean surf rushing through and over the forest. I came home with seven butterflies and one beetle. I also made a few sketches of the cliffs of Monarch Canyon.

@paulzwalker The backpack is for all my gear. In it are my camera and lenses, sketchbook, pens and brushes, watercolors and kill jars for insects, plus a lot of water. Loaded, it can be heavy. What I don't carry is food and clothes. The food attracts bears. So, the food and the clothes are left home.
