iOS shortcuts.app is really the worst of all worlds.

Every now and then I try to do something and I die a little inside that in 2024 this is the "best" automation we have on iOS.

I mean the idea is nice, coding with blocks but it feels like shortcuts just like all other recent Apple features has been left to die after the team that created it got their promos and have moved on.

Ugh, I thought I had fixed it with Scriptable.app but apparently not.

When I run the script in scriptable.app it works.

When I run it from Shortcuts it works.

When I run the shortcut from an app it does not, I think iOS kills it for taking too long or using too much memory.

God damn I've spent too much time on this already so now I'm committed to making it work :-)

I really wish there was a real scripting environment available, I look forward to EU giving Apple hell with #DMA until it's possible to sideload for real.

@gnyman drag and drop coding is maddening everywhere.

I’m holding out just the slightest bit of hope that Apple Intelligence will lead to an increase in app intents which will allow something like https://scriptable.app to make a come back. That way, even if you can’t or won’t use AI, you can still take advantage of the ripple effect of having apps surface their actions 🤷

Automate iOS using JavaScript

@cloin yeah many have tried; none have succeeded

scriptable.app is good, better than nothing at least, it solved my problem
