@EUCommission

Great initiative which will promote internet connectivity affordability 🙏

@EUCommission Do you have a mastodon alternative to the Twitter account mentioned on the page?
@EUCommission Why does the Netherlands have pretty much no hotspots?

@EUCommission

I don't fear the loss of connectivity. I'm worried about all parasites reading this"public" data and how they will be used!

@saturata @EUCommission everything is SSL nowadays, so there is nothing to read.

@gunstick @EUCommission

Every tried it yourself? It's so easy. You won't believe ...

@saturata @EUCommission I don't understand your reasoning. Please clarify. You have at least 500 characters to do so.

@gunstick @EUCommission

I guess it's more than clear what that means, right?

@saturata @EUCommission
Nothing is clear.
What is the "it" I should have "every tried" myself?
What is the "it" which is "so easy", the same "it"?
What I "won't believe"?

@gunstick @EUCommission

?
What if you read your own posting?
What if you think yourself or ask a friend?
What if you believe it or not?

No more time to waist on that ..

@saturata @EUCommission yeah, screw you. Waste of my time
@EUCommission
Would be cool if you add your Mastodon to both „Follow the latest progress and learn more about getting involved.“ and to the share section.
@EUCommission
I travel a lot all around Europe, and I have never, not even once, seen one of these available anywhere. Considering how much ressources go into this, I wonder why this project is so inefficient and what needs to improve to get way more of these hotspots deployed, especially in regions where travellers actually need it.
@basisbit @EUCommission wot? do you actually know how it was pulled together?
@basisbit @EUCommission And I have used it in a city next to mine. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s not there/useful to other people.
@spitfire
And how come you think it would be not there / useful for others? You might want to reread my toot. @EUCommission
@basisbit @EUCommission That is because while 93k hotspots look huge, EU surface is about 4.4 million sq.km. Which works out to about one hotspot per 48 square kilometers; and that is assuming perfect distribution... In reality, you'll easily travel 100 kilometers and only get a signal for hundred meters. I've seen and used several of them in different cities and was quite glad of them. If you didn't see them, open that interactive map and find where there are!
@EUCommission great service, especially when combined with chat control legislation so we can monitor you, everywhere, anytime!
@EUCommission good initiative. However, some countries should do better than that. These connections are not only useful for people lucky enough to go on holidays but for everyone who can’t afford data plans and may need it on a daily basis.
@EUCommission Why such a difficult URL?
@EUCommission it seems the message was not clear enough for the Netherlands
@EUCommission
I just looking for Hamburg. Seems to me this is a joke. A very expensive one too...
Like often, a good idea but bad made.

European Commission on Mastodon

@EUCommission

And what's the story on the Netherlands?

@EUCommission it feels like a lot of the hotspots are situated in our most recent member. Nice to have you in, Croatia. 😊

@EUCommission

Oh, look UK ... what a shame about #Brexit ... 🙄

@EUCommission Will the EU do anything for people living in rural areas? Or will the focus be on where the young are? People you need to win for your cause :)
@EUCommission croatia is shining here holy moly

@EUCommission I spent ten minutes trying to find something useful on the website that link points to. Didn’t find any. How about providing something the average user here has an actual use for?

… instead of that nonsense. 🤔

@EUCommission don't forget to use a VPN where you control all the end points so that the EU Commission can't spy on your traffic like they want to.
@EUCommission wait a moment, wait a moment, canary islands have those?

wow, i never knew they had. it is not notified or warned anywhere here.

how do i get informed about that and which are the SSID or BSSIDs?
@EUCommission by the dots it feels only north municipalities are subscribed with the exception of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the south of the island (just one dot???) and Telde at the east.
@EUCommission so is the same name as the initiative for the SSID. i never saw something like that in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

@EUCommission

Twitter now called shitty, is a fascist weapon. Using xitter AT ALL makes others use it. Victims.

Twitter manipulated posts to trick Turkey into "re-electing" the deeply unpopular dictator. "Threads" is preventing mention of a national French Party now, (!!!!) in the run up to its "check fascism at the gate" vote.

It is a moral DUTY to get off billionaire communication controls and onto Mastodon any non billionaire platform.

A moral duty for press to report.

#nazis #newsie

@EUCommission Ooh, another #brexit 'benefit' for those of us visiting EU from the mad island of Brexitania.

@EUCommission

I love all the "public wifi isnt secure!" comments.

Its 2024 people. We have TLS 1.2/3 and HSTS pre loading. And nobody cares about random peoples SSIDs or google credentials.

@queen_fennec @EUCommission So you were asleep during the reveal of the latest banking mitm attack? And the latest DHCP/VPN crack? How can you trust what you see if a threat actor controls your point if entry?
@KoosPol @EUCommission It is not about trust. Its about risk. If you are Dutch: I have multiple podcast episodes about the FUD around public wifi being somehow insecure for regular users. Feel free to check it out.
@EUCommission super Idee, aber wie geht das in Deutschland wo schon die kabeltechnische Versorgung so hinten dran ist? Da haben doch selbst die einzelnen Hotspots selbst kein uplink...
@EUCommission Martinique? Guyane? None or not relevant to be placed on the map?
@EUCommission Yes, we've just joined #Wife4EU during our holidays #Urlaub24cro in 🇭🇷 Croatia, specially in Istria and on island Krk. 👍
@EUCommission I thought from the headline this was going to be about using AI to fake scientific results.
@EUCommission it's unfortunate that #Wifi4EU still has these technical requirements (#Passpoint / #WPAEnterprise) which are as is incompatible to wireless community #MeshNetworks like #Freifunk... I'm hoping to get a small step closer to fixing this though thanks to @nlnet. #OpenHarbors #WPAoverL2TP #WPAoverIP
