Neanderthals were named after finds from the Neander valley. It was later realised that earlier finds had been misidentified, and the first described Neanderthal fossils were in fact found in Engis, Belgium.

So, postulating a bit, H. Neanderthalensis could well have been named H. Engisensis, H. Wallooniensis, or possibly even H. Schmerlingensis
