Apple will not ship Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screensharing in the EU this year because of the Digital Markets Act.

The company blames interoperability requirements which would force them to compromise user privacy and data security. 🙃

The EU’s journey to legislate getting shittier versions of American tech products is almost complete. It’s all going according to plan I guess. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I really don't understand how some people in the states see this as something negative for the average EU citizen

@carnage4life Apple are pissed because they want to stop anyone offering subscriptions direct to iPhone users. They want their 30% cut of every transaction related to an app that runs on their phones. And the EU is penalizing them for their anti-trust behavior.

There are of course lots of people who think Apple are the good guys and those challenging their anti-competitive practices are evil, and/or shooting themselves in the foot when Apple retaliates.

Here comes the positive aspect about all of it:

I DON'T USE ANY APPLE DEVICE 😂

@carnage4life
EU citizen here. "Shittier versions" are the US ones, not the EU ones - sorry!
@carnage4life others said that before, the or came a bit later. Tbh I’m perfectly fine with other ppl being alpha testers for such invasive features
@carnage4life I'll take my privacy over cool new features & shareholder value every day of the week.
@dcdeejay How exactly do these features impact privacy?

@carnage4life If AI really is the future, Apple needs to complete. If they don't they'll lose out. There are a lot of companies ready to fill any AI-shaped hole in the Apple ecosystem. They could do so without paying any Apple tax, and without Apple's approval or control - especially so in the EU.

If Apple borks AI, people will just go elsewhere for it. Maybe it becomes a compelling reason to switch from Apple. It's not like Apple would benefit from deliberately holding back on AI.

@carnage4life I would pay more for a non AI version of a new phone. I don't want it but I'm not given a fucking choice.
@carnage4life
Well, I like user privacy and data security. 🤷🏾‍♂️
@carnage4life Why are you trampling on our freedom?
