In reading about the prevalence of #dissociating in patients with #schizophrenia spectrum disorders, I came across this fascinating paper detailing diagnostic criteria for SSDs and Disociative Disorders. Among other things of interest, it talks about the "network structure of psychopathology." Or the idea that mental health problems we currently view as co-morbid may actually just be causally linked. Being tired makes it hard to properly assess threat or regulate our emotions. Which can cause more stress and anxiety, resulting in a downward spiral to depression. So that person wouldn't necessarily have depression primarily, and thus antidepressants may not help. But anti-anxiety meds could!
