I've been wheelchair bound since 2018. I am so fucking tired of having my path completely blocked by arseholes parking their cars on the pavement, I now carry a small Swiss Army Knife with one of those metal punch attachements. 33 tyres ruined and counting. Cunts.
@fesshole wheelchair and mobility scooter user here, I've been tempted many times!
@fesshole There's not a court in the land which'd convict you, crack on.
@fesshole I feel your pain, I'm blind and so often have had to go into the road to get round a twat driver.
@treehousedarren @fesshole Yes! 100% this.
@FreakyFwoof @fesshole should I admit that sometimes in those situations my stick becomes a weapon of mass paintwork distruction.
@treehousedarren @fesshole Only if I should admit the same thing...
@FreakyFwoof @treehousedarren @fesshole *get's caught
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY CAR! THE PAINT'S RUINED
"What's paint? Sir, I'm blind."
@cykonot @treehousedarren @fesshole I am so down with this response haha
@FreakyFwoof I know this is appealing to low expectations, but we could totally go the horrid elephant parable route. "I didn't know there was a car there. I was walking down a sidewalk and unexpectedly ran into an obstruction. I then used my cane to probe the obstacle to see if there was a way around it. It's a car? Who knew? How did I get diverted to a parking space?" @cykonot @treehousedarren @fesshole

@fesshole note to readers of this bot
Most people do not use 'wheelchair-bound' to describe themselves anymore, and certainly don't want able-bodied people to describe wheelchair users in that way.

It's a mobility tool that enables people to live their lives and move around the world. Not a trap or a prison.

Just, for later.

@noodlemaz @fesshole I think policing this is counterproductive. Intent is more important than the word. There is no one correct way to experience being in a wheelchair. I don’t feel it’s degrading to think it’s restrictive—compared to not needing that aid—or to acknowledge a possibly painful history. I imagine it can be a frustration that needs to be expressed at times. Certainly let people experiencing it speak for themselves. Not being allowed to feel a certain way is what’s degrading.

@jonathanavt @fesshole I'm not "policing" it, this is a bot that auto posts things. I'm not addressing the person who wrote it, but trying to add useful context. I have had many disabled speakers take the time and effort to explain this point to people, it costs me nothing to try to amplify that message for them.

If someone wants to use it themselves, as original poster did, fine. Telling them not to wasn't the point and I'm certainly not saying people can't feel whatever they do.

@noodlemaz @fesshole I’m not saying you’re accusing the writer. But just the fact that this gets pointed out without actual misuse feels repressive to me. Today it feels as if disabilities must always be viewed through rose-tinted glasses, as if that is how people with them get respected, meanwhile putting them in a straitjacket of our own. Maybe we or our surroundings are at different stages of acceptance with respect to disabilities, with different symbols dominating.
@jonathanavt @noodlemaz @fesshole I don't find it repressive to point out a more empowering way of thinking about a mobility aid. most friends I know who use a wheelchair wince every time they hear the narrative of "bound to a wheelchair" whether in some newspaper article, in a film or TV program, or in conversation from a non-disabled person. This repeated message through media and wider culture is what I find more repressive as it can give people a very negative self-image and also what is the point i mean I also wouldn't say I'm bound into my shoes for example.
@jonathanavt Language matters and @noodlemaz was simply pointing out that at least some portion of wheelchair users would prefer to not be called "wheelchair bound". I don't think you need to be nagging them about this.

@fesshole

I always wish I had a lightsaber for these situations. This is more realistic.

@fesshole Do you think they understand the meaning of a flat tire?
@fesshole seems we all agree on this one, OP is absolutely right!
@fesshole GOOD!!! Keep it up. And when are they going to make taller chairs? It seems almost insulting to have people look down at you all the time.
@fesshole If you see an angry wheelchair bound person attacking a badly parked car, no you didn't.
@fesshole apparently it’s not illegal. I say to you: Huzzah! Carry on.
@fesshole good for you. Please continue.

@fesshole

My sister got a mobility scooter.

It was useless because of this.

Perfectly legal in Altrincham UK, so she would have had 33 cars to ruin any day.

@kataclyst

@fesshole now you just need wheels with spikes >:)
@fesshole I want my HOA the fine those jerks. Do something good for a change.
@fesshole this is a crime???? There many better ways to fix this that doesn’t involve directing extra hate towards wheelchair users!
@khaldoonalnuaimi @fesshole What better ways to fix this? You ask the driver not to do it, they will verbally abuse you. You report it to the police, they will say not our problem. Tell the council, same response. The issue is the drivers who do it are mostly not reasonable, decent people. I’ve tried pretty hard to fix this other ways, but nothing has worked (for longer than a couple of weeks anyway) - what are your suggestions?
@robidoo99 @khaldoonalnuaimi @fesshole Personally, I’m on team “accidental” tyre puncture, but another alternative might be a difficult to remove sticker that says “I’m an asshole who parks so badly wheelchair users can’t get down the street”. But that takes more prep, and having the stickers on you might be incriminating. (I mean for the hero in the eyes of the assholes.)
@fesshole I'm not sure how these people would know why their tires were vandalized. It might not stop them from parking in bad places again.

@fesshole I don't know much about law, but from a moral philosophy or cyclist community standpount: you improve many lifes!

what tool exactly? I can't find "metal punch" on victorinoxes homepage. is it this or maybe this?

@fesshole Keep up the good work!
@fesshole truthfully tires are barely an inconvenience for many. I’ve known many a POS that sat in handicapped spots unlocked, windows down because they weren’t worth stealing or even towing. I had a friend who used to keep a piece of sharpened rebar in the back of his pickup for those people. A quick sharp jab in the grill low in the radiator did the trick. A good large Milwaukee screwdriver also works. On older cars they’ll be well down the road before the engine locks…

@fesshole

If you see someone in a wheelchair puncture a tire...no, you didn't.

@fesshole thank you for your service 🫡
@fesshole Ive always lived very rural, rarely park in a city. But recently, i went to a friend's house and pulled in and parked in her driveway. Her husband came out and pointed out to me wheelchairs couldn't pass me. I had no idea.
@fesshole Even if I can fully understand your frustration, please consider: Would you also puncture the tires of a car of with a wheelchair fixation inside?
Ok they park wrong. But why? Maybe their wife is in labor? Their parents have a heart attack?
And what would be the reaction?"ooh these vandals. Ill vote extreme right to get these kids to jail" Would you feel better if you just let some air from their tires? This is unusual and would make them think. Or placing Papers on their windshields?

@fesshole Righteous! Keep up the good work. It sucks when pushing kids in strollers too.

Also report them to the council if you feel like it.

@fesshole We've all thought about it, thanks for following through.
@fesshole I did once think of getting some stickers made up saying "If this car is blocking your way then feel free to kick it. This won't move the car out of your way but it might make you feel better."
@fesshole Where can I buy this knife? Asking for a friend.
@fesshole This isn't on the poster but I wonder if the ‘victims' of the hole punch actually realize what they did to inspire the act? Does it click in their head that they impeded someone else’s movement and so they need a tow?
