if this isn't an intentional trap it's the stupidest plotline. I'm supposed to believe anyone thought that checking on the bombs was a good idea? I'm supposed to believe they made Tang Fan a complete coward for absolutely no reason? This doesn't even fit with the other characterization WITHIN THE SHOW, much less what it does to book characterization.

I'm sorry I keep ragging on the show but I'll own I'm a little shocked especially considering how many people I know who love it.

@gekidasa sometimes they don't bother me and sometimes they do and I'd be hard pressed to say the difference (like, why one works for me and another doesn't) but this one, I'd say it was a combo of their making Tang Fan into such a brat + all the new characters + just completely changing the entire story after, like, the first arc.

Why even adapt it at all if the original was apparently that unadaptable for whatever reason???

@dppunforth i'm not convinced it was unadaptable. The emperor isn't evil, and there's angst kinda vaguely shitty ones (see nif), and let's be honest, blaming the empress for fandom fights within the court is a time honored tradition

@gekidasa yes, I was VERY surprised when, with all the ministerial betrayal going on, Consort Wan turned out NOT to be responsible. Blaming the women around the emperor is such a Thing.
