China is reaching the point where it might might now have more expertise in building #highenergyphysics colliders than the rest of Europe combined, says CERN's Frank Zimmermann. It's planning to build the 100-kilometre #CircularElectronPositronCollider (#CEPC). #physics

China could start building world’s biggest particle collider in 2027

The US$5 billion facility would be cheaper, bigger and faster to build than a similar one proposed by European scientists.

@Guinnessy Next thing you know, Congress will want to ban atoms, 'cause ... China.
@Guinnessy @kittylyst Great! (Or are we concerned about a collider gap?)
@jered @kittylyst It has a knock on effect on a number of other industries, so by not being strong in high energy physics it has implications for nuclear reactor expertise for example.
