Touching my toms.
The siletz #tomatoes are doing well outdoors 👩‍🌾

When pruning your tomatoes - save some of the leaves to soak for 24 hrs with water & make natural pest repellent spray that you can use on plants not in the nightshade family. It helps with getting rid of aphids & their eggs & with several other garden pests.

@PhoenixSerenity

Interesting... this could likely be extended to include other species with well-known defensive strategies, like tobacco plants (nicotine), peppers (capsaicin), plants from the Allium family (garlic, onions), etc. I'm picturing a "best of" cocktail spray comprising the most notable plant defensive chemistry. Would you have to worry about interactions between them?

@VulcanTourist I haven't tried making blends with those other plants. I tend to stick to what's been tried & has worked. The tomato leaves solution works on plants not in same nightshade family. I also use smashed garlic cloves, soaked in water for 48 hrs - when I don't have fresh tomato leaves to use. The garlic one can be used on all my plants, several bushes/shrubs & my fruit trees.

@PhoenixSerenity

I've got to try this, when I take my fluorescent green thumb out of mothballs.

@PhoenixSerenity Interesting, thanks! My hibiscus has pesky infestations which neem oil spray hasn't knocked back. Soap and water help some but I swear the bugs are becoming resistant. I have to prune tomato suckers this next two weeks so I'll give this a shot -- will mix it with the soap and water spray so that it sticks longer.

Thanks again!

@femme_mal I'd use the smashed garlic on your hibiscus, if infestation is very high & they're aphids. You can follow up with the tomato leaves solution, 3-4 days after.
