‘It’s unbearable’: in ever-hotter US cities, air conditioning is no longer enough

Record-breaking temperatures in the last few years shatter the myth that air conditioning alone will keep people safe

@bsmall2 @DoomsdaysCW I wonder if there's an energy model for this to plan my air conditioning usage 🤔
@Tanuki @DoomsdaysCW
A Japanese grassroots guy used to give an example of his friend's restaurant that periodically turned the AC off for a while, and no one noticed... I guess it depends on your conditions, insulation and machine quality etc... I just try not to do anything at home, just lay on some towels on the tatami read and space out... when I have to keep sweat off the keyboard at work the AC I'd o a timer 30 or 60 minutes. When I can't focus anymore I put it back on.
@bsmall2 @DoomsdaysCW yea I can tolerate heat but I don't like sweating into my fabric chairs either, it's gross and I have to steam clean them. Also I haven't figured out how to sleep when it's above about 79°F, but I guess billions of people manage

@Tanuki @DoomsdaysCW
But, I guess we have to remember that a lot of those billions die from the heat too...

It would be nice if we could all just take it easy in the summer. Just hang out by the coolest nearby places. We still haven't found the nearest river swimming hole... The waterfall about an hour away was real cool.. I'll have to see if the forest at the top of the local park will still be cool in August: Maybe taking naps up there will help make up for hot, sleepless nights?
