Instead, it attributes that obvious fact to an "emerging coalition that views Donald J. Trump’s agenda as a threat to democracy..."

This is a perfect example of Big Journalism's insistent on business as usual in the face of an emergency.

@dangillmor Corporations are not just amoral, they are explicitly immoral, absent some external constraints such as democratic government regulation. There is nothing like a corporation to encourage an individual to give up on their own morals.

Mainstream "we think ourselves centrist" media - no matter how nice you think you are to Trump, his thin skin and planetary-scale ego will ensure he still hates you, and you'll still be the first with your backs against the wall under his administration.

Stop fooling yourselves and start telling the truth. There is no "both sides" here.

@dangillmor I would like an exposé on how a story like that happens. The writer wrote a draft based on an editor’s instructions, their editor gave them feedback, the rewritten final draft was turned in, where final edits were made, the headline was written by someone else. How does the reporter feel about the downstream team changing what they wanted to write? I want to see the first draft or hear what they would have written with no direction. Anonymously, of course.

@dangillmor it’s the exact same story as 2016. The news media can’t keep the dollar signs out of their eyes. They’ll cover the dying gasps of democracy the same way, careful to appear objective as they report on ‘the new normal’ they helped usher in. Slap a mainstream news executive today for America

@dangillmor Democracy dies in the darkness below the keyboards of journalists unable or unwilling to understand journalism's obligation to fight for democracy as the guarantor of everyone's free speech, as opposed to published paid speech to keep the clockwork of a solely commercially focused corporation going, no matter the public interests.
