It's FanChat Friday! This week's prompt is: Do you have any physical merch? How do you choose what merch to get? Now's your chance to show it off!

@FandomChats I have almost none! I did get the special editions of svsss and tgcf final volumes though, which came with some stuff - here's one of the tgcf stickers on my water tumbler that I keep on my desk at work!
(yes that is a bird sticker next to it. obviously!)
@FandomChats The only thing I've collected a lot of merch for was Enstars, and I've recently been trying to get rid of it
so many can badges and I can't find anyone to give them to
I kept only an album and the manjuus of my #1 faves. Sticking to fewer things makes it look tidier when displaying them (I don't count things like doujins/manga/books as merch which is why you can see many more of those in the pictures haha)
My rule going forward in the future is 'don't buy anything whose only purpose is to be displayed' because that means it becomes useless as soon as I get tired or run out of space for it
My ideal merch at this point is probably a nice tshirt, or a mechanical pencil or some fountain pen ink (these do exist for some franchises)
@FandomChats I took a recent picture since all my physical emblemcon stuff arrived, what timing!
Here's a messier collection from last year when I didn't have a cork board to organize: https://blorbo.social/@charisu/111062526576178990
@FandomChats so you know how some people have a animal they like and when their family doesn't know what to get as present they get something with that animal? Well my "animal" is Totoro, so I actually have a bunch of Totoro things, mugs, a teapot, plushies etc (I do love Totoro, but I wouldn't get myself most of these things)
Other than that I don't have a lot, some art books, a few stickers, a few pins
@FandomChats i love collecting merch with my partner! though we cant afford as much as we'd like and have conflicted feelings about manufacturing practices that keeps us away from most things. we have a pretty nice collection though i think for #yugioh , and since moving we haven't been able to display it all. my partner and i decided to collect the entirety of the original print of yugioh duel monsters, and a friend kindly gifted us yugioh R! we have a TON of doujinshi too! but its wayyy too much to show in just 4 photos, so here are favorites that bring me a lot of joy
ive also made my own...merch? the keycap is all me babey! sculpted and painted with my own paws. wish there were more handmade fan items out there these days. dropshipping makes me depressed
And the keycap is AWESOME!! I'd love for more handmade stuff instead \ o /@FandomChats hell yeah!
I prefer small things, like mugs, keychains and Nendoroids
the purse was a gift from my brother, I'm not into HP these days but hey free purse lol
Rarely I'll splurge on a statue if there's a character I'm really fond of!

@FandomChats A lot of my collection is still back in my old house in Puerto Rico, some of it seen in the four photos attached here--but as an adult, I like collecting stickers or keychains if they are below 5-10 bucks including shipping XD Sometimes some chibi figures. Otherwise I try to not collect much due to space or money, unless it's something super rare that I know I will never see again, like very obscure manga. Thankfully that hasn't happened much lol. Thank you, second hand markets that sell things super cheap!
The dolls featured in these photos from my house, I brought with me to my home here in the US but OVA!Belldandy's head broke when getting her out of the protective casing, and I think Ryoko's sword broke
Not sure how to fix them, and some of the stands (the pole thing that helps them stand up) are missing but I'm sure it's because they're still in storage. Not sure how they would be replaced...But I love them, anyway
@FandomChats Some stuff from the past few years I've gotten! I don't tend to buy fanmerch but sometimes they're easier or cheaper to get than official merch if the series in question doesn't have much fanmerch. (Most merch from Macross II is fan-made, for example.) #FanChats25
(Credits of fanmerch in alt text!)
I've done repairs on similar-sized figures and smaller by very carefully making small holes in each half (tiny drill bit in a pin-vice) and then inserting a chunk of a paperclip as a permanent pin. (maybe a drop of model superglue if I'm sure I want it permanent)
Beautiful collection, btw. I keep trying to stay out of merch-heavy fandoms but it doesn't work. ^^;;
@kalloway Haha I know that feel! I think my heaviest was just Sailor Moon throughout the years...I haven't bought much from it since entering college a lifetime ago, because ironically enough it became way more expensive since, than even importing the manga in the 90s (to a small island, no less.) IMO, of course. I look at fandoms like hmm, I'll say Star Wars and kinda go
A way I try to control is just to repeat the mantra my mother taught me: when you can get it, you'll get it ^^; Works when you see the costs of stuff LMAO At the same time, most of my fandoms are old ones, so luckily no new merch if I want it, old merch is a coin's toss if I feel like splurging.
And oooh, that's a thought! Just unraveling the paperclip and cutting it in some way that can fit in the hole, then? I'll have to consider that one of these days when I get time to reorganize stuff >.>
I've been taking advantage of Suruga-ya's free shipping sales and picking up a lot of stuff lately, but it's a lot of artbooks and then smaller stuff like keychains.
Here's a quick-pic of an example repair with a paperclip-as-pin, fixing poor Ryuna's broken staff.
