A #Russian #A_50 ultra-modern reconnaissance aircraft was shot down using #Patriot_SAMs and SAMbush tactics - Colonel #Rosanna_Clemente, assistant chief of staff of the 10th #US Army.
Two A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft used by Russia in its war against #Ukraine have been destroyed since the beginning of 2024.
The #Ukrainian military was specially trained: #German instructors woke up them at night, gave orders to move to a firing position to engage in air combat,
and then withdrew again. This is also how a #Su_27 was shot down near the #Russian border during one of the first SAMbushes.
Information about the shooting down of an #A_50 appeared on January 14. It was first reported that the plane, worth over $350 million, may have been attacked by #Russian air defence fire protecting the #Kerch_Bridge. Eventually, the elimination of the reconnaissance aircraft was confirmed officially by the Armed Forces of #Ukraine.
The second #A_50 was shot down on February 23: the #AFU did that almost 300 km from the front line. The entire crew of the aircraft was killed.
