You absolutely can, for me however it changes back to #Google as default search engine after updates, others don't seem to have this problem though.
The main funding of #Mozilla comes from the Google deal which pays 400-450 million dollar per year to be the default #searchengine on #Firefox #browser. Some people see this critically.

The trouble is, there are two major browser engines, one is entirely Google and the other pays Google to let it survive. If you reject the one making protection payments you're left with the one running the racket! I'd rather choose the lesser of the two evils, then turn off the broken bits...
(There are Firefox forks like IceCat too, but IceCat in particular made weird decisions with regards to JavaScript that break most sites and the others are lesser supported)...
