Today the S&P 500, which tracks the stock performance of 500 of the biggest companies on U.S. stock exchanges, closed at a new record high of 5,354. The Nasdaq Composite, which is weighted toward the information technology sector, also closed at a record high of 17,187. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was also up, but not to a new record. It closed at 38,807.

@wdlindsy I remember back in the early 70s when Republicans actually stood up for the law, which is why Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.

Too bad almost none of today's Republicans support the Constitution but support the convicted felon.

US democracy has been dying of a thousand small cuts like this for years, yet the EIU democracy index hasn't cut the US score for several years because nothing has changed formally about the institutions.

It's becoming an increasingly hollow shell that will take a decade to restore.

Even if Biden wins another term, he won't necessarily reverse it because a lot has happened on his watch.

He's only fractionally to blame, a democracy needs the whole people to participate, otherwise it's not real #democracy.

@EricLawton I suspect that many Americans, especially those with sound educations, know that American democracy is a woefully unrealized ideal.
