I don’t know if our city officials realize the kind of long term damage they will inflige on the TTC and usage of transit if they let the strike move forward. It’s not only paralyzingly the city in the short term, it’s the trust people will have in our city government and what our taxes dollars are for that will be shattered.

Make the deal with the workers.

I'm not convinced most of them care TBH.

So many of our city staff are suburban dwellers who don't even live in the city they have no stake in what does or doesn't happen here beyond their paycheque. That's one of the reasons it's so hard to get the major roads tolled. People driving in who don't live here have outsized influence over the lives of people who DO live here.

As for council, council is dominated by rich suburban car people who would love to see transit die so they can keep drinking the gasoline koolaid.

Our mayor is a union person but far more powerful than the TTC union are autoworkers, steelworkers etc who are dependent on the car industry staying strong. She is as in bed with cars as the rest of them. She stood shoulder to shoulder with her late husband against a carbon tax for this reason.

Council only has a handful of decent people who know/care and they are continuously out voted.

This video is helpful in understanding how we got here. The TTC has been handicapped by conservatives for years.
