1/ For those of you that don't think throwing Trump in jail will have repercussions or those of you that are dancing on his political grave, watch this video and get a sense of the anger this particular person has. And he isn't the only one from reading through the comments.

A bit surprised to see a sprinkling of Canadians in the comments though.

Donald Trump The Convicted Felon

2/ Here is the money quote from the video:

"Tyrants and evil people can't be reasoned with. They cannot be negotiated with. They cannot be convinced that their ways are wrong. And for all of you that think there is a way out of this without there being some real hard times, the quicker you can accept the reality for what it is and what's coming, the better off you're going to be”

On this point, I actually agree with him.

#trump #trumpconviction

3/ I hate to say this, but If Trump gets jailed, or loses in November, those of us that aren't carrying concealed or otherwise armed, are behind curve. These people are extremely serious and Trump at this point is their symbol.

#trump #trumpconviction

4/ one thing that I’ve given a lot of thought to is how much of our politic is driven by fear. Trump campaigns on fear: “we are losing the country”, etc.

Biden and the democrats are campaigning on fear as well: “Democracy is at stake”

This has been a problem for decades in American politics because that’s a great and easy way to galvanize supporters to keep politicians in power.

Fear can cause you to ignore the rational side of the brain and suspend critical thinking

#trump #trumpconviction

5/ Fear is so effective that the mainstream media uses it as engagement farming to sell more ad space. Meanwhile voters fear gauge is pegged to 11.

From my point of view, this isn’t an accident. Keeping people fearful allows the politicians to obtain or keep power without having to be held accountable to their constituents.

The main thrust lately about voting for Biden is to deny Trump the presidency.

#trump #trumpconviction

6/ So American politics is basically boiled down to “don’t vote for the other guy”. But what are we really voting for? A vote against Trump for example might well be a vote against losing democracy.

#trump #trumpconviction

7/ But Biden wouldn’t be in this position if he

1) recognized that the political landscape has changed (support expanding the Supreme Court)

2) not being complicit in an ongoing genocide

3) His rich friends are doing fine, but the average American is struggling with corporate profiteering (and not call it inflation)

#trump #trumpconviction

8/ I just wish more people were aware that their fear is being monetized. Maybe it has always been that way, but maybe it’s easier to see these days.

Fear is used to buy more guns, fear is used to sell more newspaper subscriptions. The Washington Post tagline is “Democracy dies in darkness”.

According to the Washington Post, democracy only costs $0.99 every four weeks. Otherwise.. you know “Democracy dies in darkness”

#trump #trumpconviction

9/ Anyway back to the original video. I initially thought the guy was being facetious when he referred to Trump as the “Great Donald Trump”, but the more I listened to his rant, the more I got a sense of his foundational line of reasoning.

To refer to someone as “great” is to minimize or ignore things that don’t make them “great”. Otherwise they wouldn’t be “great”. If that makes sense

#trump #trumpconviction

10/ By defining Trump as being “great”, anything and everything negative that happens to him is at best suspect and worst a desperate plot to prevent him from realizing his “glorious purpose”.

Trump at this point is a symbol. When the guy says if “this can happen to Trump, it can happen to you”, he at once recognizes that Trump is not like him, but yet says that he is? The only thing Trump and this guy have in common is that they are both white men

#trump #trumpconviction

11/ I agree with him that we have a two tiered justice system, but I come at that conclusion from the other way.

The reason that Trump has been allowed to do and say all the bullshit he has up to this point is *because* of the two tired justice system. The fact that Trump is being prosecuted at all stems from how egregious his conduct has been.

#trump #trumpconviction

12/ Last time I checked, there wasn’t a bunch of rednecks hoarding classified documents in their beach golf clubs or paying hush money to pornstars as they were running for president.

I mean this is very specific conduct for a specific kind of person to be able to do. But he has been successful in getting these people to believe they are like him

#trump #trumpconviction

13/13 So of course the guy believes Trump is being persecuted rather than prosecuted. He is the “Great Donald Trump”. I honestly don’t care about what they believe.
What I do care about is what are they going to do in support of that belief.

Very interesting and perceptive post. Thank you for taking the time to write.
The thing i found interesting about "Chad's video" was that Id probably agree with a lot of it if you removed the word Trump and inserted Biden (obv not the parts about being a felon).

However, he talked about not knowing if Trump was the real deal but ended up knowing he was...
Why? What convinced him? Injecting bleach? Selling Super-Trump cards? The grabbing-pussy video? The dancing? The gold sneakers stunt? The rambling incoherent speeches? The promises that "he understands you"?

Or is "Chad" appealing not just to other red necks but to ppl who could now (post trial) be on the fence and vacillating btwn backing Trump. Or not.

@Godfrey642 Thank you for reading and for your comments. I completely agree with your take

@hasani
Im very fearful about what is going to happen in US over the next year (or more). I'm British living in Australia and this will affect all countries which trade and/or ally to USA. We have US military personnel here, contracts with USA. What happens to us if USA goes rogue??

The Trump-effect has massively dented UK politics and of course Farage on the ultraRight is staging a comeback for our election in 4 weeks and will do everything possible to get into and take over the Tory party à la Trump/MAGA/GOP.

Over here in Aus we currently have a Labour govt after 12 yrs of Right wing favouritism of its wealthy corporate donor base. But ppl are fickle. Having had a boost in jobs, tax breaks that favour the poor & middle classes, student loan reductions and cancellation of fees for some courses (nursing/teaching) that are crisis areas, voters are beginning to turn AWAY from the current govt. WHYYYY ?

Is it simply a perception that low>middle classes envy wealth and voting for hard line capitalism is a step towards a dream of becoming wealthy too? Like money is all that counts? Similarly a govt that cares for the poor, disenfranchised, marginalised, disabled is going to give (our) money to support minority groups and not use to benefit us? When making vulnerable groups feel safer and more visible will make EVERYONE safer and happier.
What the hell is so wrong with that???

Ppl going on about freedom and choice and wellbeing and rights only seem to want it for themselves. And the evangelism sweeping USA makes for scary reading. Christian? Its terrifying. The crazies are out of the asylum.
