You’d think as a life-long Texan I’d have visited Buc-ee’s by now.
Today was the first time. Was driving home with my sister after visiting family. Figured why not, it’s on the way, let’s charge my car while we’re there.
Yup, I charged my car at a Buc-ee’s.
Expensive AF, though.
Also, is it just me or do their chargers require using the app to stop charging and disconnect? WTF? Could not get the session to stop at the handle like others.
@hornblower My experience with public chargers is limited, but EA and Volta disconnect at the handle. No matter how much I squeezed the handle at the Buc-ee’s charger, it would not terminate and unlock. My car was not locking it.
Once I terminated the session in the app, it unlocked.
Was a big problem because mobile service was bad there. It took a lot of effort to start the session to begin with because that was the first time using ChargePoint, so had some setup to do over spotty connection.
@bedast I had the same problem at Shell Recharge station last week. Hit stop button and it just kept charging. Had to use thier janky app.
Honestly the payment systems are THE biggest issue with EVs. I hate all the "Apps". Just let me tap a credit card like a gas station.
@sleepy62 So far I’ve only seen EA offer plain ol credit card payment, like a fuel pump.
Heck, EVgo takes this problem a huge leap forward requiring a frickin NFC card you have to order and wait for before you can even get started with the first charge, and they don’t tell you this up front (at least, I didn’t see it when I first signed up over a year ago). And it took 2 tries to order it!
