[Thread] This was my day today... A hike in a nearby forest and meadow, recording bird songs, and taking photos. Observations? Plenty for the bees to eat, but no bumblebees and barely any other bees. A couple of carpenter bees, a few small bees, but that was about all. I did capture some cool bird songs and used Merlin to identify them. So, mixed feelings about my hike. But it was still good to spend some time in nature -- even if my observations confirmed my misgivings about the local bee population.

My #CarpenterBee friend was a bit shy, and disappeared into the leaves after pollinating the #Trillium flowers.
I only sighted 6 #Ladyslipper #Orchids in the usual spots. They've been dwindling down every year. I remember when the spot was full of them -- just a few years ago! I'm grateful the property owner is aware of them and does his best to protect them from plant poachers (which are a real thing). Ladyslippers don't transplant well, and they should just be left alone (and viewed form a distance -- I used a telephoto lens for this shot).

Where are the bees?!!

It was hard to get good recordings of the neighborhood birds on my #NatureHike today -- so much #NoisePollution! But I waited until my neighbor was done running his lawn mower and found some spots that were relatively free from traffic sounds (it wasn't easy). But I was rewarded with a sound recording of a new visitor to #Maine -- the #CarolinaWren!

@DoomsdaysCW I get a small fraction of what I used to get 10 years ago. Recently just found out that domestic bumblebees are critically endangered here in Pennsylvania.
