I have pretty much minimal sympathy for a casino, but this is still utterly horrifying

Cloudflare took down our website after trying to force us to pay 120k$ within 24h

@srtcd424 The only safe way to use them is the free tier.
@srtcd424 Exactly. Little sympathy for the scum it happened to, but they've clearly documented that Cloudflare is an extortion racket (on top of all the other bad things it is).

@srtcd424
I used cloudflare's free tier for a free game website I helped with. CF closed the account when they received a single fabricated incomplete DMCA complaint from a competitor (who didn't own the IP they complained about, even if they'd followed the rules on how to detail a complaint.)

I already guessed that free accounts might suffer poorer service, after all, they aren't losing anything if they terminate them on any complaint, but I'd assumed paying accounts would be treated better..

@srtcd424 this quote "Just because you're paying $250/month, don't expect any kind of courtesy or (non-sale) responses to support mails" reminds me of Cory doctorow's "paying for it does not make it a market" https://doctorow.medium.com/https-pluralistic-net-2024-04-22-kargo-kult-kaptialism-dont-buy-it-1ec41b2c97fd

@srtcd424 we all know it, #cloudflare with it's #monopoly is pretty bad, but still most of the internet relies on it....

Unfortunately, there are not so many #CDN alternatives available. And most of those are not really investing in #renewables for their big #datacenters all over the world...
I only know #akamai and #leaseweb which are at least listed by The #Green #Web Foundation.

@srtcd424 my small business used to be hosted on Cloudflare's Enterprise plan. We had a great deal, but at some point I realized that our whole business was just totally reliant on the good will of Cloudflare salespeople. That was onerous to say the least, so we've since moved to self-hosting everything. Super glad about that.
