Today, another car you’ve probably never heard of from the house of Chery - the Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid, on sale in the UK soon. The word Jaecoo is apparently a conflation of the German word for hunter - Jäger - and the English word ‘cool’. The claimed ‘electric-only’ range is 55 miles. Expect to see a lot more unfamiliar Chinese cars on our roads as unprecedented change in the automotive industry unfolds. Pic: SMMT Test Day, 2024.

@davidwilkins

Any resemblance to a Land Rover etc...

A very large cheese needed for grating on the front.

A desperately ugly thing. Looks like the marketing people wanted to communicate 'mood'. No actual designers involved.

@davidwilkins a fun chapter in their Australian history:

They disappeared for a long time and have only recently come back with some models, after that scandal.

China's Great Wall, Chery hit by 23,000-vehicle asbestos recall

Almost 24,000 low-cost Chinese vehicles produced by Chery and Great Wall have been recalled in Australia after the cars' engine and exhaust gaskets were found to contain asbestos.

@vwdasher Blimey!
@davidwilkins an one stage it was illegal to sell a couple of their models in my state due to the asbestos 😆
@davidwilkins to me the back end has strong Range Rover energy 👀
It will be interesting to see where they price position themselves.
@davidwilkins We need electric cars not agricultural vehicles.
