So after a couple of days of problems with my custom built #TruNAS server (been in service since 2018), I found that one of the SATA buses on the mboard died. I was wondering why I lost 2 of my 6 HDDs. A third drive had a degraded state, but I ran #Spinrite and fixed that. I moved the other 2 HDDs to a PCIe SATA card. The HDDs in the pool were not coming back, so had to use #archlinux live to fdisk them. Now they're resilvering. #linux #nas

Following up from yesterday, the resilvering process didn't go as I expected and I did not regain the lost TB's of storage when I re-added the two HDD's. I probably did something wrong.

So trying again today to see if I can regain some TB's.

Everything is backed up on other drives so if I bork TruNAS altogether, no big deal.

Next week I plan on blowing away the whole server, starting from scratch and moving from TruNAS Core to TruNAS Scale.

I've decided to do an almost total rebuild of my #trunas server. I've ordered a new motherboard, AMD Ryzen CPU and a new SATA PCIe card. This along with the new RAM and a couple of extra HDD's will beef it up nicely.
