#cdrama #BestChoiceEver starring Xu Kai and Yang Zi (Tong Nian from #GoGoSquid!)

Am I a sucker for haughty, ever-perturbed-yet-amused Xu Kai? Yes. And he's some kind of uber-rich snooty heir who (probably) falls in love with a middle-class lady?

*gets comfy*

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver
... also with Niu Jun Feng (and fancy black marble elevators?!) from #LoveO2O ?! I swear those elevators were in the office that the love rival from the video game worked at... 🧐

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

ZOMG Xu Kai's smug amused face as he eats his apple and listens to this family conversation in episode 7! 😂😂😂

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

Cackling. I am CACKLING at this entire conversation with the apple. I had to watch it a couple times. Xu Kai's amused face is best face.

I wonder if these two turtles at Chenghuan's house are the same two turtles Xu Kai's character had in #SheAndHerPerfectHusband 🤔🤔🤔
#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

Also, Granny is almost as scheme-y as her grandkid.

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

The ramp up to this secret wedding ceremony is like waiting for a car accident to happen.

My face: 😬😬😬😬😬

I love the dresses and blouses Chenghuan's mom wears. So lovely!

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver
"Wanyu, what the hell are you doing?" 😅😅😅 her mom is desperate and a rollercoaster, and always denigrating her dad. He's finally asking the right question.

"You're planning to get engaged to me just to please your dad, right?" Well, not JUST to please his dad. But that played a huge role in this actually happening.

"Am I an idiot or are you an idiot?" I think there's plenty of idiocy to go around, here.

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

"Mom, the Xin family never does anything unless it benefits them. They're using Chenghuan." Chengzao is a smart cookie.

All that money the Xin family has, and Jialiang always looks rumpled and half off the couch. His sister has custom tailored dresses while pregnant, but he can't get well-fitted clothes?

It could go either way right now. Chenghuan could actually go through with this, considering the financial spot she's in... 🫣🫣🫣

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

How much of this is foreshadowing for when she finds out Granny's little secret? 🤔🫣

"You're embarrassing me in front of all of these people." - Wanyu, of all people, has the gall to say THAT to Chenghuan! Because Chenghuan is embarrassing HER. 😧

"... to fulfill the ambitions that you didn't accomplish when you were younger." OUCH TO THE MAX. No lies detected, though...

These riverwalk scenes are so scenic...

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

Uh, pretty sure she's moving out because you told her she was no longer your daughter. And then you slapped her across the face in front of so many family members.

Zhiming is ever the opportunist. I don't trust that guy's motives AT ALL.

MAO SEEING RIGHT THROUGH HIS BULLSHIT. YES, MAO MAO!

"Goodbye, scheming man!" Mao, I love you.

"She and I don't share the same values." Mom values financial stability over respecting her kid's wishes. 💔😢

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

Xu Kai's eyebrows every time Chenghuan reinforces that he is a brother, family, absolutely not a candidate for a love interest... 🤭 When they touched hands while doing laundry and he was all 😳 and she just reiterated that they are related... 😆

"Oh, sorry, her phone is dead. Friend me instead." Chengzao, cockblocking to defend his crush.

Zhiming, thinking about Chenghuan's BED SIZE, like a totally normal "brother"/work friend.

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver
"Even if you were thrown into the desert, would you still happily plant cacti?" The dialogue on this show is 🤌

He is digging himself a pretty deep hole with all of these half-truths. "You are an excellent candidate for perfectly work related reasons and DEFINITELY not because I can use your relationship with our secretly rich grandmother in order to inherit her business and get my mom and myself promoted. Have some self-confidence!" 😇

When you no longer eye up the 30yo female lead's wardrobe for potential but instead sincerely appreciate the 60yo mom's blouses... what does that mean about your own age?

Asking for a friend.

I binged through 23 of the 37 episodes of the #cdrama #BestChoiceEver this weekend and now there's a *fishing* date and OOPS dad and bro are conveniently going fishing, too?

Too often, a cdrama is longer than its useful plot lines allow. I really hope this isn't that turning point. 😬

But! It is a good encouragement for me to watch pretty much ANYTHING ELSE for a day or two. 😅

OK. I was wrong. Episode 24, going fishing, *is* a filler-ish episode, but it has some humor, moves the plotline forward, and introduces a new character.

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

The laughing smile Mr. Mai has when Chengzao gets roped into taking the country bumpkin relatives to the aquarium! 😆

Drunk Chenghuan basically DARING Yao Zhiming to, I dunno, plant a big smooch on her on that bus. 😁 And then she goes and does it herself. 🎇🎆 Didn't she not even kiss her ex the three years they were together?

Maybe close the front door if you don't want mosquitoes in your house?!

Sneaky quiet hallway kisses are adorable. 🥰

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

"Parents keep waiting for their children to thank them, but their children keep waiting for them to apologize."

👀😳👀🤯😭 omfg have truer words ever been spoken?

Their mom is stuck in a rough spot. Her generation only allowed her to focus on family, feeding them well, and maintaining appearance of perfection. But when the family doesn't show up to eat the food she took so much pride in preparing, I can understand an emptiness in her life's foundation.

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

I didn't even think of that! The strife between mother and daughter really is the strife of the expectations of women from previous generations and now. Her mom doesn't have the experience or context to understand that a career could be more interesting or higher priority than just getting married and having kids. She feels rejected to her core for her whole way of life that she was hoping to pass down and share with her daughter. 💔

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

😭😭😭😭😭

Her mom, as flawed as she is, really tried to do her daughter better than she was done in her childhood. And from her perspective and goals, she did! She treated her daughter with love and care as a human who deserved love and care. Whereas previous generations treated female children as servants to male family members. 💔 She really *did* do better, even if it still isn't enough for the expectations of *this* generation.

😭😭😭😭😭

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

LMFAOOOOOOO the soup helps with MILK SECRETION?! Dude hasn't seen his girlfriend's boobs yet, and now his future mother-in-law is making him envision his girlfriend LACTATING?!

Xu Kai in a frilly pink apron is 👌

If this were a kdrama, I'd be worried about a white truck as his dad rushes back. 😬 I'm still nervous, tbh.

BLACK SEDAN INSTEAD FUCK

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

IT'S HIS BIRTHDAY?! HIS ESTRANGED DAD CAME BACK INTO HIS LIFE AND DIED THE DAY BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY?!

Fuckin' OUCH.

Xu Kai bawling into his bowl of birthday noodles is all of us.

Chenghuan is just impossibly emotionally stable and supportive. I am a mess on my best days.

Age 32 is almost the same as age 40?! 🤔

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

Is this a cultural thing or a just-this-show thing that her son holding a woman's hand is worthy of fear and shame and panic and depression? Is he not even allowed to hold a woman's hand without first notifying his mother?!

"You take care of your dad." Uh, he's your husband? Does your marriage not matter?!

I can understand wanting to be selfish after giving your life to your family for so long (which still served HER ego), but be an adult about it

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver

The big deal about Chengzao and his law fight to get custody of Dingding for Mao was hardly a half second on screen for resolution but they spent all of episode 36 on this painful-to-watch babying of Wanyu. Ugh. I am forcing myself to finish this series. So close! One episode left!

Did they just lose access to the garden house for filming so moved to this village for the last couple episodes?

#cdrama #BestChoiceEver final thoughts

Is this last song Chenghuan and her mom singing a duet to each other?

The first 16+ episodes were absorbing and fun to watch. The last few were ... oof. I think because it focused mostly on the struggles the mom had of aging, her family not needing her as much, and the times changing. I mostly found her demanding and unreasonable, at best. Potentially more interesting side plots resolved too quickly.

I recommend it for at least the first 20+ episodes.

@JillsJoy. I was watching that scene and thought, "Naaa, this isn't a KDrama!"

@JanineFromPgh 😨😨😨

The twitching in the crosswalk! 😫

@JillsJoy “why are you making this soup now?” 😂
