"The hard-hitting report said #children needed to be protected from the #tech industry’s profit-driven “strategy of capturing children’s #attention, using all forms of #cognitive bias to shut children away on their #screens, control them, re-engage them and #monetise them”. [...] “We want [the industry] to know we’ve seen what they’re doing and we won’t let them get away with it.”"
Stop children using smartphones until they are 13, says French report

Children should be banned from most social media until 18 amid attempts to ‘monetise’ them, says Macron-commissioned study

@homlett I would argue that if we feel we need to stop children from using tech maybe we should rethink how that tech is abused. Instead of age limits it's profit at the cost of humanity that should be reviewed. If tech was treated humanely, children could use it. It brings us back to the Hot and Cold media debate started by McLuhan who was seen as obsolete. We really need to think about "la déontologie des médias" in 2024 and beyond. That's where we are failing.
@homlett In related news I saw a book in French about screen time when on my walk this morning. I considered picking it up from a lending library.
