Any time NYC says it can't afford this or that, I will be pulling out a photo of this vehicle.

@stevenbodzin

I’d rather have Sunday library hours.

Or maybe social workers in schools…

Let’s fully fund NYC Dept of Homeless Services while we are at it.

I think we can do these things for less than the cost of nypd overtime.

@stevenbodzin Someone turn this hunk of metal into a bookmobile!

@stevenbodzin My first thought was, "Hey, least they don't have an MRAP or a tank." Then I realized how *utterly wrong* it is that such a thought made sense for even a moment.

(Also, I assume they *do* have those things, they just weren't using them at the moment.)

@stevenbodzin
Also gonna pull this put next time a specific family member says "NYC doesn't have proper police anymore"
@stevenbodzin goddamn it looks like something from Warhammer
@stevenbodzin It's even worse than NY spending money for that thing. They probably got it for cheap, because police departments across the country are flooded with equipment the military has taken out of service. There was a bit on Last Week Tonight about it.

@stevenbodzin @freakazoid And there’s this:

“The officer that choked Eric Garner in 2014 raked in $17,000 in overtime in the 12 months after Garner's death.”

NYPD budget for 2017 of $10 billion included $4.8 billion in “fringe benefits” and $335 million to settle past claims of police misconduct

Let’s divest from the NYPD, please.

The real cost of the police, and why the NYPD's actual price tag is $10 billion a year

The New York Police Department budget swelled to $6 billion in 2020. We break down why the police costs $10 billion and what that means for society.
