Poilievre hints to police he would use notwithstanding clause to change laws | CBC News

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says he would use "whatever tools the Constitution allows" to pass criminal laws if his party forms the next government.

@PBruce Wait, how can the federal government use the notwithstanding clause? Can't they just pass a law? #CanPoli #cdnpoli

@dan613

Yes, the same as provinces to override sections of the Charter

@PBruce

That man is dangerous. We need to do everything we can to show people in our lives who they’re voting for if they really want to “vote for change”…and elect an authoritarian demagogue. And the media could really help by reporting more stories like this that show who he is. Jeez Louise.

@KimberlyN

Agree, as misinformation and ignorance serve only the dishonest that can't withstand the light of day , like Poilievre . As we see in the US lying and denying is the unpresidented Presidential right wing norm .

@PBruce

Exactly, and when media normalizes the fascistic behaviour of political leaders by treating every abhorrent idea they spew as if it’s perfectly fine (as they often do with Poilievre too), people start to ignore their better judgment, and believe the leader’s lies instead. We’ve seen how this story plays out, and it’s not good…

@KimberlyN

Media will not bite the corp hand that feeds it

@PBruce

I agree, but sometimes they surprise me. Lately it feels like we may be beginning to see a crack in the “no really, it’s fiiiine” veneer of some media. But honestly, I’m not sure I’ll believe anything has changed until we hear as much about PP’s arguably abhorrent behaviour as we do about JT’s vacations (days and days of wall to wall questions and punditry critical of every minute detail). PP plays our media like a fiddle instead. Sigh.

@KimberlyN

Yes, it is frustrating
