There's a reason cop shows are so prolific on American TV and why they have become increasingly grandiose and detached from reality.
They're the Andrew Tate of genres. But they're effective apologia for the out of control violence and cowardice and greed of police.
"Those People have gotten so out of hand only a state sanctioned kill squad can restore order, and they're REQUIRED to break the law to do so."
Fascism is already normalized in America.
why i literally hang up without comment when one of them calls from a police association asking for a donation
@gwynnion whenever I see a post like this I feel compelled to mention that it's also not unusual in the US for cops/sheriffs to threaten (or even engage in) violence against city councillors/commissioners/mayors who try to reduce their budgets or authority.
Generally in a deniable way of course. They're not idiots (at least not in that way). But once you've seen it happen in practice it's hard to unsee.
Cops are basically just a cowardly way to send the military without sending the actual military as that caused upheaval in the past and that's it.
Excellent text examining the creation of the first police forces, which took place in England and the US in just a few decades in the mid-19th century. And explaining that they were not brought into being to prevent crime or protect the public, but primarily to control crowds: the working class, white and black.
And let's not forget "Qualified Immunity", a legal doctrine dreamed up just for them so they don't have to be responsible for anything they do.
