Back on the bike after quite a while. Forgot my bike computer (!), but my legs (and bum) reckon bit over 40k and ~850m climbing. Did a wee bit of exploring, and found lovely singletrack, as well as a nice new spot for coffee and home made lentil ‘cup-a-soup’. Featuring Penguin, my personal barista (and selfie double), for #coffee matters. #cycling #gravel #gravelfoyle #trossachs (@jd this my #AlcoholStove setup)
looks like I’ll be making use of the standing desk today. #cycling
@tf A penguin inclined young gentleman of my close acquaintance was delighted with the pictures.
@nedrichards the gentleman will be glad to know that the Penguin and I have had many great adventures over the years. 😀
@tf I have scheduled some of your flickr backlog for an important moment, whenever that occurs.
@nedrichards I have stopped posting there, been dithering since the summer about closing that account completely.
@tf very nice scenery! But 850m climbing for 40km 😱

Is that a Bagman Carradice? I don't see many of them. I have one, but with a Swift saddlebag rather than Bagman. 😀
@normand up and down all the time 🙂. Yes, that’s the bagman, I couldn’t use the bag without it, it hits the back of my legs, I don’t know if that’s due to the lowered seat stays on these modern frames. The bag is the Carradicci Barley.
@tf Ah, lovely stuff. A fine looking bike and I'm geeking at the Imco lighter too! What do you use as wadding in your stove? It looks like a great set up.
@tf It was a run round the Rhinns of Islay and some cheese and pickle sandwiches for me this weekend.

@jd lovely, what bag is that?
@tf It's a Gilles Berthoud bag (https://berthoudcycles.fr/en/934-handlebar-bag-gb25-gray.html). It was a serious indulgence but I've had it for years now, use it constantly, and it's only beginning to break in so I don't regret it. I'll admit I do keep peering at it and thinking I could make a passable equivalent - but it's a long queue of potential projects.
@jd ah, I have a Berthoud rear view mirror on that bike. Also an indulgence.
@jd best bike I have ever had, including some overpriced Californian tat. 🙂 The wadding, I don’t know, I bought the stove for a few quid more then 10 years ago from some dude on eBay, including the pot support. But I replaced the make up case yesterday after noting it was beginning to corrode through (alcohol isn’t what it used to be!), and the wadding looks suspiciously like a stack of cotton makeup pads. I like this stove because while slow I can use it safely inside a tent, as it doesn’t spill, and doesn’t runaway the way pressurised alcohol stoves can. The lighter is great too, much better than zippo. The wind shield is my own work, used to make them from kitchen foil at first, but it just didn’t last long enough.
@tf may I ask what frame it is? I've been trying to zoom on the logo but I can't get it.
@jd it’s a spa cycles elan 725 bike, fitted a different drive train and saddle, otherwise as they built it. 38c tyres.
