people running single user instances: anything i should know before going into masto.host? assume i only know enough about computers to get myself in trouble
i bought a domain :)
im gonna keep my bots on botsin.space because i think they are happier there. they have plenty of room to run around
okay so... uh. time for the hard question: are there any blocklists i can use as a starting point that aren't compromised by people with deeply concerning personal vendettas?
@NoraReed if it's a single user instance why do you need blocklists?
@bob im trans
@NoraReed ok but if it's a single user instance than installing a blocklist and just blocking people are the same thing

@NoraReed The only one we're importing at the moment is Seirdy's Fedinuke, because it has receipts for every entry: https://seirdy.one/posts/2023/05/02/fediverse-blocklists/#fedinuke-entries

It's pretty small and limited though, there's a lot that won't be covered by it. It's a fine starting point, at least. And it's small enough you could theoretically read every receipt and decide for yourself. (I can't really recommend it as a good use of your time)

@skyfaller thank you, I'll check that out!
@NoraReed @skyfaller I used the Tier 0 list and I've not seen anything untoward from my single user self hosted instance. Then I just add new stuff occasionally as I see it crop up.

@NoraReed

"FediNuke" by this person looks OK to me.

@NoraReed literally none.

but! unlike posting from dot social, you are not gonna be easy to find on your own instance, and you can quietly block/defederate from jerks as you wish without needing to submit a report to their admins.
