I bought a refurbished #Lenovo X1 Carbon with a repainted keyboard. Not only did it have a weird rough texture, but the paint came off when I scratched it.

I believe the #refurbishing partner was #T1A, and as much as I love the idea of these corporate laptops having a second and even third life, this is not how you do it. The store took it back, no questions asked. Clearly they agreed with me.

The placement of the serial number sticker should also have triggered an early big fat red flag.

@saustrup
Indeed it should have...
@saustrup I have never seen a keyboard been spray painted before, that must take forever to do. You can typically get a used keyboard for around 500kr on ebay, so why bother? I love the business Lenovos, they are easy to find parts for, and can run for many years, talking about #righttorepair ..
@iobear I think the deal with the X1 Carbon, is that the keyboard spare part is the entire lower shell of the laptop, with the keyboard included - at least that was the part I found on the Lenovo site. Apparently it's cheaper to disassemble it (because I assume that is required), clean, repaint and repaint the letters. It's a mystery. A really stupid mystery.
@saustrup hmm or maybe they just “converted“ the keyboard to nordic, as the English and German variants is more abundant and cheaper?
@iobear The serial number indicated that this was a Danish layout to begin with, so that's probably not it.
