Weird Field spaceship progress. I quite like the plastic look of the model without any texture added. Just makes me want to build a kit of it, or make it out of Lego.

This sounds like a good excuse to buy yourself a 3d printer!

1/72 model kit look & feel. The teenager inside me goes 'wanna'.
@hittitezombie Pretty sure my aesthetic is 30% Airfix and 40% Star Wars and 30% Alien.

@thisnorthernboy

To my eye, the plastic look very much captures the feel of the original artwork.

@nyrath Thanks Winchell. When I was designing these ships, they very quickly went from a grungy mess of mechanical parts, to something odder, and less mechanical. I think being able to capture a bit of that in 3D is key.

Hi Rob - a recommendation if I may...

Over the years I've built a library of ship elements, thrusters, nozzles, antennae, greebles and nurnies...

I generally only keep geometry, textures vary too much.

I really wish I'd been more organised from the start.

So maybe consider saving out elements you think you might re-use. As the library builds up, it's REALLY handy for building things fast!

@Nick_Stevens_graphics Thanks Nick. This is definitely something I want to do. I've got a whole field of 'space kit' to one side in Blender. Don't really know the best way to manage that. Can you save things to a library?

@thisnorthernboy

In blender, I don't know.

(For Lightwave I have folders with OBJ or LWO files, and thumbnail illustrations).
