I cannot possibly stress enough how important it is for you to see #RiddleOfFire as soon as humanly possible

My favorite new movie in a long long time

And all this #DungeonSynth I’ve been listening to for the past year β€” someone else was listening too!!

#RiddleOfFire

It’s incredible how deftly this movie avoids kitsch or tweeness, two extremely likely pitfalls that would have easily tempted a lesser filmmaker
Tonally there are just so many ways it could have gone wrong, and it never does. It threads an extremely narrow needle.
I never saw the trailer -- I was motivated enough to go see it from the poster and the description on the Brattle website -- but I knew there was a likely risk that it would be a series of gimmicky, pandering affectations held together by a whisper-thin plot, and it was none of those things!

The story was good, the performances were good (even the children!), it was beautifully shot and edited. As heavily stylized movies go, it has more substance than some of Wes Anderson's stuff.

I saw it described as "Harmony Korine's 'The Goonies,'" but I thought of it more like "Panos Cosmatos's 'Moonrise Kingdom.'"
