Why I Only Teach Bass On Zoom

I first taught one-on-one lessons online in the late 2000s. Skype wasn’t really up to the task, but a handful of people were interested in getting some lessons for whom me being thousands of miles away made in person lessons impossible.

@Solobasssteve I've had massive issues with Zoom as a software for taking lessons, dunno if it's not working with my audio interface or what, but the audio is incredibly garbled. Discord on the other hand worked tremendously. Arran was quite pleasantly surprised with how everything worked out after I asked him if we could switch to Discord for said reasons. Just my 2 cents, maybe this is interesting to you as well.

@raichoo sure! I've not had any issues yet, but I imagine that there are going to be combinations of OS/interface/software version that clash.

How to get set up for Bass Lessons on Zoom

I've been teaching online now for about 15 years. I started out with Skype and have used all kinds of other video conferencing tools in between. The standard now, post-pandemic, is Zoom.

@Solobasssteve I did the entire dance with no usable results sadly. It's not that I'm opposed to using Zoom, but it's really the only software that didn't work for me when doing Video lessons, which is quite ironic 😹

@raichoo @Solobasssteve I use Zoom. My most frequent error is forgetting to sync my audio interfaces in the Audio MIDI Setup utility (MacOS). When I forget, the sound quality gradually degrades over the space of several minutes into complete chaos.
